Early Childhood Music & Movement and Elementary Music
Instructor: Mrs. Deupree
See You Next August in MUSIC and MOVEMENT
with
MRS. DEUPREE!

Music and Movement classes combine introductory skills in both physical education and music for the Pre-K, Kindergarten and Pre-First students. Classes combine singing, music, movement and lots of activities to make learning fun! Please be sure to dress your child in Tennis Shoes for school everyday! Sandals, Crocs, party shoes, boots and other types of footwear do not provide the safety and mobility required for your child's many school activities. Help your child have a safe and fun school day!

Mrs. Deupree also teaches Music to 1st and 2nd grade. Students study beginning music theory, composers, many music genres, and more. Check your school calendar for our annual music programs!

Pre-Kindergarten Music & Movement
HELLO PRE-K!!!

We had a fun time practicing many of our large motor skills on a new, exciting obstacle course this week! We hopped 10 times, walked a very long, curvy balance beam, got crawl through a fun tunnel and we hung upside down on a trapeze! Wow - we had fun!

The Pre-K students are becoming talented dribblers and catchers! We have also been balancing and hopping on 1 foot for several weeks. We put this to practice on a hopscotch board. While working on a pattern of 1 - 2 - 1 - 2, we used 1-foot, 2-feet, 1-foot, 2-feet to move up and down the hopscotch board. Try drawing one on your driveway and doing the hop-jump pattern!

We had a great visit from the Atlanta Opera Company as they performed "The Ugly Duckling" for us!  The children were entranced as they soaked in the beautifully sung story.

These are some of the skills we have been working on in M & M!

  • * We have been singing and learning about many new MOVEMENT WORDS.
  • We had a super obstacle course on which we jumped OVER, ON and UP and DOWN and MORE with JUMPING DAY!
  • * We had another obstacle course with some JUMPING as well as some NEW challenges! We had 2 balance beams, we had to crawl UNDER some purple noodles and got another turn jumping on the trampoline!
  • * We have been running, galloping, walking tip-toe, jumping and even walking BACKWARDS!
  • * We played soccer kicking games and kicked still and rolling mini soccer ball
  • We've taken a  stairs field trip to practice going up and down the stairs with one foot on each step
  • We had fun juggling and catching pumpkin balloons!
  • Yee-Haw! We have been galloping around on stick horses!
  • Ho, Ho, Ho! We have been juggling and catching Christmas balloons!

Parents: Tennis shoes provide for the best safety and support in Music & Movement as well as on your child's daily trips to the playground. Please remember those tennis shoes everyday!

Kindergarten and Pre-First
Hello to all my Kindergarten and Pre-First friends!

It's spring and that means ... baseball!  We've started learning to throw overhand like baseball players! We'll be ready for the big league in no time!

Did you know that you can get inexpensive jump ropes from Walmart or even the Dollar Store? They are fun and easy to practice with at home. We are continuing to work on jump rope at school. Remember it is a pattern of 2 motions - aaaarms - feet!

We had a great visit from the Atlanta Opera Company as they performed "The Ugly Duckling" for us!  It was a wonderful follow-up to our study of Gian Carlo Menotti and our "Opera Day" that we had a few weeks ago. The children were entranced as they soaked in the beautifully sung story.

Our locomotor skills have become "multi-part". We have done somersaults and pencil rolls. We have begun playing hopscotch and are learning to jump rope!  Get ready for some FUN!

Our March composer is Camille Saint-Saens. Make sure your student tells you how to pronounce his name - it's French!  Mr. Saint-Saens wrote a wonderful children's symphony called Carnival of the Animals! We'll be listening to that over the next few weeks!

Get ready for some fun!
