Early Childhood Music & Movement and Elementary Music
Instructor: Mrs. Deupree
See You Next August in MUSIC and MOVEMENT
with
MRS. DEUPREE!

Music and Movement classes combine introductory skills in both physical education and music for the Pre-K, Kindergarten and Pre-First students. Classes combine singing, music, movement and lots of activities to make learning fun! Please be sure to dress your child in Tennis Shoes for school everyday! Sandals, Crocs, party shoes, boots and other types of footwear do not provide the safety and mobility required for your child's many school activities. Help your child have a safe and fun school day!

Mrs. Deupree also teaches Music to 1st and 2nd grade. Students study beginning music theory, composers, many music genres, and more. Check your school calendar for our annual music programs!

Beginners Music & Movement
The boys and girls are working hard preparing for their Spring Music Program "Favorite Folk Songs". Be sure that Friday, April 29th at 11:15 is on your calendar to attend this exciting performance.

The children continued working on their eye-hand and tracking skills today with the overhand throw. It is amazing to see the improvement from the first time we tried it. We are definitely looking at some future baseball stars!

The children had a fun time last week on our new obstacle course! Students had the opportunity to walk 2 balance beams, jump over, crawl under, complete the pattern jump/hop of a hopscotch board, hop on 1 foot and jump on a trampoline! You should see the kids' faces light up when they walk in the door and see a new obstacle course! All the boys and girls love obstacle courses!

We've been tracking balls with our eyes and hands for the past few weeks. We returned to our kicking skills to see if we could track our eyes and feet. Most students are very good kickers and are learning to track the ball and make good contact!

We will continue to work with our catching and bouncing skills. We are working on bouncing and catching balls as well as keeping the bounce going. Some students are really quick learners and we all had a lot of fun!

Parents - please use shopping trips, trips to the park and walks around the neighborhood to let your child try walking down a "balance beam" curb, walking down steps with one foot on each step, jumping off the edge of a wall or jumping over the cracks in the sidewalk. All of these activities will help them - and - they are fun!

Parents: Now that the weather is cold, the children want to wear their cute, clunky boots. Please remember that  Tennis shoes provide for the best safety and support in Music & Movement as well as on your child's daily trips to the playground. Shoes that have rubber bottoms, closed toes and that have tie, buckle or Velcro closure should be worn to school everyday!

Pre-K Music & Movement

We had fun with some Easter animal balls in M/M! They were fun to throw, but also fun to use imaginations!

Baseball season is here and we are working on our overhand throw in M & M!  The boys and girls are working hard at aiming and tracking their throws and are doing an awesome job!

Last week we took a Stairs Field Trip around the school to practice going down and up stairs! By this time in Pre-K, students should be able to go down the steps with one foot on each step. Most students did very well. You can always use opportunities on stairs to help your child become proficient with this activity!

We will continue working on our catching and dribbling skills. We are working on bouncing and catching balls as well as keeping the bounce going. Some students are really quick learners. Watch out NBA!
